Welcome
Welcome to the website of the Roanoke Branch, NAACP. The Roanoke Branch was originally established 87 years ago to follow through on the promise of equal rights for all minority communities in Roanoke, Virginia and the surrounding areas. The branch has been actively fighting civil rights issues ever since. Today, our branch is proud to carry on the goals and objectives of the National Office for all citizens of Roanoke, Virginia.
As a non-profit organization, all officers and executive committee members at the local and conference level work on a volunteer basis to defend those who cannot defend themselves. Our primary purpose is to address civil rights complaints filed by citizens. Each complaint is processed according to NAACP guidelines and procedures, click here to learn more.
Our work does not end there. Each year, we plan a series of community outreach events as well as fund-raising events. We can only be successful with the participation of our members and support from the greater community. It takes more than a great plan; it takes great people to see that plan through. If you are not already a member, join today.
The NAACP
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was formed in 1909 and is the nations oldest and largest civil rights organization. From its inception, the NAACP has been at the forefront of protecting the civil rights of minority groups and all citizens.
The NAACP ensures the political, educational, social, and economic equality of minority groups and citizens; achieves equality of rights and eliminates race prejudice among the citizens of the United States; removes all barriers of racial discrimination through the democratic processes; seeks to enact and enforce federal, state, and local laws securing civil rights; informs the public on the adverse effects of racial discrimination and seeks its elimination; and educates persons as to their constitutional rights and to take lawful action in furtherance of these principles. http://www.naacp.org
